A direct cremation, is a simple unattended cremation. The cremation will take place in the usual dignified manner, with only the funeral staff present. The ashes are then returned to the family, or can be scattered in the crematorium gardens if preferred.
A full breakdown of what is included can be found here.
You may well have seen one of a number of TV adverts promoting their reduced price cremation service. These services are provided by large corporate companies where all dealings with them will be through a call centre, with you speaking with any number of staff whilst making the arrangements.
Should you choose to use our services, you will have contact with one of our local branches throughout the whole process and in regular contact with one of our caring, experienced local team. You will have the option to come into one of our offices to make the arrangements face to face with our caring, compassionate and experienced professionals.
When it comes to the cremation, this will be overseen on the day by either Roger or Chris Byrom, a father and son team, both of whom grew up and live in North Devon.
Unlike online corporate companies, we won't make you have the cremation hundreds of miles from home.
Direct Cremations arranged with us, will take place at the North Devon Crematorium.
Where a death occurs, depends on what your next steps are. If the death was expected at home, or in a care home, our on call team, which includes one of our family funeral directors, who will bring your loved one into our care. Our phones are answered 24 hours a day, by one of our funeral directors. If the death occurs in hospital the bereavement support team will guide you through what happens next, but we can start to make any arrangements before the hospital give release. If the death is unexpected then the coroner will be involved, who will discuss with you what the next steps will be, again you an make contact with us at any point during this process. A full guide can be found here.
If you are unsure about what to do next, or have any other questions, please don't hesitate to give us a call, and we will help guide you through what happens next.
Once the service has taken place, we won't forget about you and leave you to find your way through the next steps alone.
Not everyone is comfortable with the ashes being scattered in the crematorium grounds, or being returned home, unsure of what to do next. We can help arrange internment in local cemeteries, should you wish*. If you wanted a more personal urn, we can source and arrange this on your behalf, we can even arrange for jewellery to be made with a small portion of the ashes.
